La Tren a Las Nubes - The train in the clouds

From Salta town we were able to take the train over the Andes.  It leaves at 7am and returns at 11pm so it was a long day but well worth it. It goes quite slowly up to 4,400 metres and although the day had started with rain the sun came out at about 10am and the rest of the day was very bright sunshine. We were very lucky to be on the first train this year.  The train includes a medical car and an accompanying ambulance.  We were OK but there was quite a demand for oxygen and other medical treatment - caused by the altitude.  They actually give out coca leaves - see notes at the end of the blogs.  We tried them but they didn't do much for us.
